Kirchheim (1804-1889) was a German scholar in Frankforrt-on-the-Main. Though he later virulently espoused Reform, he was a leader of the Orthodox community – aside from being a shohet, he was embroiled in the controversy over the 1844 Rabbinical Conference at Brunswick. Between the 1840s and 1870, he published translations and commentaries, as well as many magazine articles. After his death, he left a large and valuable Judaica collection to the M.
